You have to find the sector area of the pizzas. I can't always remember the formula but I have a program on my calculator to figure it out. You would have to use the central angle, which in this case is the 60 degrees and the 45 degrees and the radius which is the length of it.
Area of slice of pizza that is 6 inches and 60 degrees is 18.85 inches squared
Area of slice of pizza that is 7 inches and 45 degrees is 19.24 inches squared.
Now you want to find out how much you're paying for each square inch. Do this by dividing the cost by the area.
1.50/18.85 is .079. So you're paying nearly 8 cents for each square inch.
1.70/19.24 is .088. Round up and you're paying 9 cents for each square inch.
So I'll allow you guys to determine which pizza you would rather purchase based on this information.
I came at it a slightly different way, but got the same result
Pizza 1: 60/360 (fraction of the whole pizza) * pi * 6^2 (area of whole pizza) / $1.5 (price)
= 12.56 sq. inches/dollar
Pizza 2: 45/360 (fraction of whole pizza) * pi * 7^2 (area of whole pizza) / $1.7 (price)
= 11.31 sq. inches/dollar.
Just to match our numbers,
Reciprocal of 12.56 (1/12.56) = .0796 (almost 8 cents) per square inch
Reciprocal of 11.31 (1/11.31) = .0884 (close to 9 cents) per square inch
