He's become so pompous, it doesn't take a genius to realize there is a massive population of non-Christians that still celebrate Christmas. Both the majority of the American population and the global population celebrate Christmas so why make it sound like celebrating Christmas is only done by a minority of the population. Just wish everyone a merry Christmas or happy holidays and don't be rude wishing everyone a happy Monday.
You just said the reason, the holiday itself is about the god Saturn. The name is Christian but the gift giving, and majority of traditions surrounding it are not.
No, it isn't, that holiday ended with the Roman Empire. Christians merely adopted the date and the traditions as it was already an established time of celebration.
"Christmas" doesn't refer to the Christ in other languages : it's"Navidad" (birth) in Spanish, "Noël" (an obscure mix between gaelic and latin that means both "hog", "birth" and "light") in French or "Weihnachten" (sacred night) in German. Basically, our barbaric ancestors celebrated the darkest days by fear and prayed their gods to make sure sun will come back. Then, Romans enjoyed this barbaric event to celebrate Saturn. Then, Christians took the power and merged roman and christian religions to call it "Natalis". When Roman empire felt, Natalis was replaced by "Jul" in Germanic, Nordic and Scandinavian people. If we also add Saint Nicholas myth (Santa Claus...), Coca-Cola and all the bullshit we mixed for centuries (log cake, tree, lights, Jesus, gifts, etc...), you will realise that "Christmas" is just a darn good occasion to celebrate joy, winter and familly. "Religion" has just been an excuse for 5000 years in all Indo-European countries. Happy Whatever Winter Holidays :)
Is it funny to any one else that some people might get offended if a certain (any holiday) is observed and they a greeted with it, but will gladly take a day off from the holiday.
*knows that if they enter they will torn apart at the atomic level*
Or everyone just hates me.
