In the UK a pig is required by law to have a minimum amount of space while it’s being transported in a lorry. The amount of space required by law is more than a human gets in economy class on an aeroplane.

What if your guinea pig doesn’t get on with other Guineas? Or is too old/ill to be introduced to others?

Sounds like excuse *pats back and shoves socially awkward Guinea pig into Guinea crowd* and don't come back until you have friends!

I have two pigs and one's a grumpy a-hole.l who doesn't get on with others. I have them in neighboring cages so they can have jailhouse visits/chats through the bars, but the grump can't hurt the other one.

Can't guinea pigs die of loneliness, or is that some other animal?

A lot of social breeds can do that, not just guinea pigs

Humans. But then they feel lonely when near other humans. Hard to tell if animals feel lonely near others of their kind.

Does this mean you can get stuck in a perpetual loop of buying Guinea Pigs? If you start out with two and one dies, for example, you have to buy another one to keep it company. But then the original one dies and you need to get a friend for it so you aren’t breaking the law... etc etc. Unless your two Guinea Pigs happen to die around the same time; that’s the only way I can see out of this paradox.
