Depends on what organization your talking about. Shriners Children's Hospital personally spent $6.8 million on me alone. They have around 24 hospitals with hundreds of kids in their care. They even bring kids to America from around the world. Also, my case wasn't even close to the worst one...
Because most other countries rely on "the government" to address all charitable needs, they don't give donations personally. So when Bono and other celebrities jet around the world complaining that Americans need to,give more, they're comparing government money of the different countries. The US gives money via personal donations rather than via tax dollars parceled out by their government that actually is huge, but they don't get "credit" from the world organizations that don't like donations given by people who allocate money by what resonates with them, whether trafficking, hunger, medical, education, etc.
