It's called strawberry blond because when red heads get older their hair turns blond, and when light shines on it it gives it a pink is color.

The nickname "ginger" comes from Gilligan's Island's character Ginger (who was a red head)

Here in Australia we just call them rangas...... Only the gingers though. Strawberry Blondes dont count. (I am 100% pure red head btw)
