I read one which was exactly the same thing but instead of Americans it was the British and instead of Canadians it was the Irish. The only other change is the name of the ship, so which one actually happened?

I heard this one on a radio station, and the DJ(s) were reenacting the dialogue. It was Americans and Canadians, though. IDK

Canadians coulda just said so to begin with. And I don't think it's true anyway both parties would have identified themselves at the beginning of transmission it's standard procedure.

Snopes proved it false. It's under 'The Obstinate Lighthouse. Apparently there are variations of it going back to 1931. Regardless, it's still amusing to read.
