Really? Even with all the videos of people climbing cranes and tall buildings etc and filming it?

20 years ago cellphones were barely a thing and they didn't have video. So there wasn't the constant documentation of every movement we have now.

that's my point. It would have been one of those thrill seeker people and had they had the technology they would've documented it but they didn't. But to say "no one knows how they did it" is an but naive.

No, it was probably one of those pranksters who enjoys no one figuring out the mystery. Things like that weren't all that uncommon. The thrill was in knowing you got away with something and no one else has been clever enough to figure it out
