Skipped a chemistry lab at university one time and went golfing instead. On the way back (walking) I stopped by the lab to see what was scheduled for next week's lab. Found a note on the door that today's lab had been cancelled. Bonus!!

"I should have *gone*". Not "went". Yeah, he definitely shouldn't have skipped classes.
