Yeah well, that's probably because teachers only reveive the most basic training in psychology, and that is for Child development mainly. Apart from that, if you have up to 30 kids in your class, there's not much time for talking. I think of myself as a very empathic teacher, but sometimes things like that just go over your head when you're really busy making sure everybody is paying attention.

Also, bashing teachers seems to be a quite famous topic on this site. I always wonder if that is mainly 15 year-olds posting or if people who have left school quite some time ago and are grown-ups now can really be that short sighted.

What if I told you it's quite difficult for teachers to correctly identify mental health issues while it's quite easy to notice a phone?

Also, as a teacher, I can’t MAKE someone get help. If I tell a parent they should take their kid to the doctor, the district has to pay for it. I’ve told many parents “if he/she were my child, I’d take them to a doctor/psychologist etc”. Parents will say they will. Then they don’t. I can’t bring the kid in myself. Give us a break. Get off your phone in class. We’re trying
