I just feel like companies do it to avoid the purge of “HOW DARE YOU NOT SUPPORT GAY PRIDE”, like you know there’s gonna be people out there being like you guys change logos for all these days and you don’t don it for this day? HoW DARe YoU?!?!
I work in one of the most open and liberal countries on this Earth. At my company (a big multinational), we have a Diversity and Inclusion Officer. One day he is visiting from HQ and is intent on running a number of awareness sessions (as part of his KPI).
He is openly gay, shaved bald, with one brow only and a piercing through the side of his mouth. The conversation goes like this:
Him: "We need to carry out these exercises. Please freeze a couple of days on everyone's calendars for mandatory training."
HR: "Training on what?"
Him: "Diversity and Inclusion. Gay people in this office are being oppressed"
HR: *stares and blinks*
Him: "Yes. Say you have 300 people here and 10% of them are gay. They are being oppressed".
HR: *stares and blinks again*
Him: "Please freeze everyone's calendars and lock everyone in for mandatory training"
HR: "You do realize sexuality is not a factor when deciding hires?"
Him: "Why? We need to have more gay people in the company!"
HR: "... what?"
