"real castle" is not a castle....it's just a very big house:) castles need to be "fortified against attack with thick walls, battlements and towers"...castles in Britain ;)

In which case the "British castle" isn't really a castle either, defensible castles don't have big windows facing outside. That's the Belvoir Castle built in the 1800's as a residence several centuries after castles held any meaningful military use.

It's the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina and it's pretty amazing. One of the closest things America has to the old palaces of Europe. It was built only 40 years after the British castle estate in the top photo.

That's a mansion, not a castle. It's a chateauesque styled mansion specifically. I went on tours there since I lived in Asheville before.
