Not to mention a book's popularity tends to be more a result of marketing than the merits of the actual book. I've always found better results going from word of mouth.

Is he reading the Necronomicon? Or is it the mere presence of Lovecraft that is opening the portal to the world of shapeless shapes and colourless colours, Cthulhu or one of His minions bridging the gap between the worlds, crossing over, presumably, into that place of sight and sound, objects and ideas, substance and knowledge, the Twilight Zone?
