ya, no, if you are ever able to verbalize your depression, you're not depressed. its much healthier to bottle it up and not seek help, or tell a single person what you're feeling
depressed people are also allowed to be attention seeking. you can still be seeking professional help and make a comment about feeling crappy online. it doesn't invalidate your depression.
one thing is saying "ugh i feel crappy, this day sucks" and something else is rambling on about "depression is like drowning and seeing other people swim by you" or "oh my GOD im SOOO depressed im gonna kill myself now guys"
true. just saying i've known 2 people who have commited suicide and, in retrospect, it was obvious from their facebook they were severely depressed and no one took any notice (likely because of the above mentality that it is just attention seeking behaviour and nothing serious)
usually you can notice the depression offline too, people just dont really care enough to look
i used to be suicidal a few years ago and noone really knew until someone caught me
You might not be able to write a facebook post about it, but sure as hell if someone is reaching out for attention or help on facebook, it's better to respond to them rather than taking the damn risk they'll become depressed. Yeah, some people are attention whores, but that's because they feel like no one cares, which is one of the symptoms of depression and feelings like that can lead to depression under the right circumstances. So how about we don't judge people and we actually try to help them.
