I'm sort of saving this little family of bunny rabbits that's living in our neighborhood. One of my cats likes to be outside during the day and he knows they're living there, so I try to make sure I know where he is every once in a while and make sure he's not over snooping around the area the bunnies are living.
We've had 2 close calls, but they're still alive.
Has the parents been around since you've saved them? Or are you literally taking care of them? Just be careful because a friend did that once and the mother never came back to her kids.
They're safe and sound with their mother. :) After collecting them and putting them in a bush safely away from dogs an hour later I saw the mother going to collect and move them. I'm keeping my eyes open for any stragglers; I have bottle fed and released rabbits successfully before.
That's pretty awesome, I've heard from rehabbers that wild rabbits can be hard to raise for release bc they have some sort of condition while growing up they forget you are helping them and have heart attacks. Never knew if this is really true or not!
We rescued a baby bunny from our cousins dogs. His foot was hurt and we took care of him. Every day before school I'd get up early, sit In our bathtub, and feed him using a eye dropper. We let him go in our garden. I miss him.
When we were first married we didn't live in a great part of town. This jerk who lived next to us had some rabbits for some reason. One day a rabbit escaped and was in our parking area, I went out to catch it but it ran across the street and under the fence. The guy who lived over there was a huge, bearded and tattooed man who rode a Harley and often sat on his front porch drinking beer and glaring at people while his barefoot kids played in his yard. An hour or so later we heard a knock on our neighbors door,
"I caught this rabbit in my back yard, one of my kids said it might be yours."
"Oh yeah, that's one of mine, it chewed it's way out last night."
"What do you keep rabbits for?"
"I feed them to my python."
(long pause)
"You aren't getting this one back." And he left.
The next day I saw him out in his side yard where he parked his Harley, building a rabbit hutch. When we moved out six months later his daughter had the rabbit out in the yard playing.
