This was on TV three days ago. The vets said that dogs have no sense of what suicide is, and that they would not attempt it. As if a dog was stuck with its paw; it's natural response would be to chew it, even if that means the bone, in order to save its self. Therefor the explanation for the deaths leans to the sense of smell.
