I have something to add to this.
I just finished working nine shifts in a row for 12 hours a day. In the middle of it I went from day shift to night shift without a day off in between. I was awake for 25 hours straight. How is it that in North America we went from massively overworked and underpaid to good working conditions and then back to overworked and yet proud of it? We've slipped up terribly somewhere and need a course correction.
