i agree that that’s not a very helpful response, but there’s merit in using exercise as a way of making small physical improvements and releasing endorphins to aid in your overall well-being. not only that, but the time to think and improved mental wellness may help you come up with some solutions to the problems that found you where you are.

There's people suffering from certain forms of depression who could benefit from physical training and that's great for those very people. Problem is, many, many people suffering from depression do NOT benefit from it and more or less getting told they should just get their shit straight and go to the gym is not beneficial at all.

For example there are studies showing many people diagnosed as suffering from lighter forms of depression do not benefit from anti-depressants more than from placebos. I would assume these people may benefit from physical activity. But there are cases of stronger (mostly recurrent) forms of depression who respond significantly well to AD but are simply not capable of doing any kind of exercise prior to their meds kicking in. Too little is known about this complex to have one solution for everyone labelleld as depressed.
