because years of abuse and mentally breaking you down happen before they hit you. its not respect and its not weakness. it is ignorance that makes you ask this. dont try to simplify peoples emotion and the real depths of abuse
Have you been abused? No? Then don't pretend you know why people stay. In some cases not respecting yourself might come into it, but in a lot of cases it's so many other things.
