I think this demonstrates quite well the difference between british and american humour. Americans take things more literally, so they are horrified by the thought of the story. However British people can see the funny side as the story doesn't end the way they expected, and that is funny. Also this story sounds very much like a monty python sketch.

This is obviously fake, it says she died in 1857, look at the dialogue people talked much more sophisticated back then.
