You literally have to run past it. It's almost impossible to fight him the first times run past him too the doorway on the right and you'll get more stuff and get the ability to do start the fight with a jump attack on him. Gives you a decent advantage.

The area is optional. You can come back later in the game and it is a lot easier

Then the creature follows you into every corner of the map, and it seeps into every memory you have until you are one of the creatures too.
