I recently had hip surgery, and saw that my insurance had covered $225,000 for it. My dad had a heart valve replaced, IDK the cost. "Back then," I'd have been told to manage my pain with aspirin, and my dad would've just been told to take it easy and would have died. Many families had just one car "back then," and few women worked (for money). Nobody had a computer in their pocket that accessed all the information in the world.
It was a different world in many ways. There's so much more available to buy today. Much of it isn't "necessary," but we've convinced ourselves that it is.
