I'm not great looking but sometimes I look in the mirror and think I look decent. Then I see a photo and I'm like.... crap.

Why is it always worse when someone else takes one then if you took it yourself! ?

Because when someone else takes a photo they are taking usually an eye level picture. So it is a more accurate representation of how you appear to others. However when someone takes their own photograph they tend to add angle angles and more unnecessary angles. Angles=Decentish looking pictures.
