It's not crazy, if you think about it.

Exactly, most army recruits are statistically the lowest academic achievers (that's why they choose the army I guess). They are the easiest to brainwash into obedience. It is also why they are considered so expendable and disposable, because they have little value in society apart from being a soldier. Truth hurts. Now cue the replies about all the intelligent people in the army. . . . .

I think graffiti is a great form of art when it's done legally and tastefully

Reread your sentence, the reason graffiti is great art is because it's not done legally. That is what makes it great. You can't have "graffiti" if it's legal.

I see your point but in some cases it can be done legally. There are competitions to see which artist can come up with the most creative graffiti and they're given a giant brick wall to do it on. My friend's apartment complex also hired a bunch of artists to paint graffiti along the whole entire wall of the building.

Also, I don't consider spraypainting poorly (not to mention anatomically inaccurately) drawn phalli to be art in any sense.

Then you fail to see the the culture around the very birth of the art form you speak of.

There comes a point though, where the countless replication of a particular motif (the penis) moves from "artistic" to "mass-produced cliche". Originality is one of the main things that makes art, Art.
