They are most likely older and from a different generation where action shows/movies were for men and not seen as womanly or something a women should do. Thankfully the executives see the future and made this awesome show possible to bad it's almost the season finally :(

You know what I realized, since all future airbenders are decendents of Aang then when the avatar cycles back around to the airbenders the avatar will be a decendent of themselves.

All airbenders now will be decended from aang. And since the avatar is essentially the same dude just reincarnated, when the cycle comes back around to airbenders the avatar will be a decendent of themselves.

But I thought every avatar was a decedent from wan and it's actually mostly just the spirit inside of him that transfers?

Yeah but in each life it picks up the traits and memories and experience of that life. And I mean biologically the next air avatar will be a decendent of aang.

If you watch seasons 2 & 3 Korra does a spirit thing that gives random people airbending so no they're not all descended from Aang

I think they have a contract for 4 seasons with this avatar so after this season 2 more.
