Thumbs up meant it was good to kill, fist meant mercy, this is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what it really was.

you are all wrong, check out your history , the thumbs up and down was only invented in the 1950's for a film ..go read up ..

That's right it was invented for the peplum. Actually there's only two evidences about the thumb thing in antiquity (a text and the painting on a vase) and they don't say if It's up or down
