You'd have to find a clear metal, which could be rare and expensive. They can't use plastic because it'll just melt when you try to toast something.

Glass. Doesnt conduct electricity and is transparent.

First rule of the kitchen and the chemistry lab: hot glass and cold glass look exactly the same. I can see why no company would want to deal with the legal fallout of a thousand idiots burning themselves on the toaster because they "forgot it was hot".

My Chemistry teacher always said "Hot glass looks like cold glass!" every single time we did a lab. Drove me nuts, but now I say it when I'm cooking constantly.

I have a small toaster oven with a glass exterior in the front so I can look inside so I always know how toasted my food is

I've seen it! Not even any heating coils to toast so no idea how it works (saw it in a shop for £160)
