When you are walking through a parking lot or sketchy part of town, sometimes people feel vulnerable. One way they're taught to protect themselves is to hold their keys like the post shows, so if attacked or mugged, you can strike out at the attackers eyes or throat more effectively.
Mostly women are taught this- a lot of men I know this idea has not been presented to them- because it just depends on how safe you feel in the situations you're in.
Hit them with enough force, and it'll puncture straight through to the bone. Won't kill them, but they sure as fuck won't bother anyone ever again. And that's typically my goal. They hurt me? Fine. But if they hurt me, they'll hurt someone else. That's what I want to stop.
My teacher taught us to do this and he actually had a kid punch him using this method, he had to go to the hospital because the kid punched him so hard a key stabbed into my teachers arm hahaha
