I'd say that what parts they used of the book were accurate, but they did put a lot of other scenes into the movie. Very entertaining to watch! As long as you're not a stickler for accuracy.
I wouldn't say I was disappointed 15jbaughman, I was kind of touched. He did what was right for his friends, and at least the wounded dwarf now had his "family" to help him.
When I saw it in the theaters it was the first day it came out and full of all the people who were really into LOTR. When this happened, everyone did the whole "oooooooh" + weird half laugh and some claps.
I was a little upset that Kili and a couple other dwarves were left behind at laketown.
