@itsamemaria I understood what you were saying, yes. And I wasn't meaning to argue that the post is espousing socialism; I was drawing the sentiment of "equality by legislation" out to its inevitable conclusion. Whenever a government can force its people to behave in a certain way --any certain way-- things just don't tend to end well.

Furthermore, your "black women mathematicians" did not land us on the moon. Americans with a can-do attitude did. The skin color, sex, age, heritage, astrological sign, nor any other superficial denominator of the people involved had any effect or bearing upon their efforts.

That wasn't an attack on you. That thinking is another result of your upbringing. I am simply assuming that your thinking is a result of your education.
I am further assuming, based upon your comments, that you are an American. If you had had a proper elementary school education into the founding of this great nation you would understand that what you advocate is not the place of our government to become involved in.
Yes our government did finally sign a few "civil rights" legislations, but the civil rights movements did not originate, nor should they have, in Washington. My simple point here is that this is not what out government is designed to do, and when they try such overreach they only fuck it up.

@smitty I'm sorry your parents and teachers have educated you so poorly. We absolutely were not working toward equality from a governmental perspective.
And no, equality did not land us on the moon.
Oh, and one more inconvenient truth: it's precisely the liberal meddling in social issues which the government has no business in which has caused the societal decay we have seen for the last 50 years.
@itsamemaria gets it. "Equality" can only be assured in opportunity. It is impossible to create equality of outcomes.

That's not the function of government.
That's a socialist pipe dream.

@geluregis I've studied Lincoln in the past and I don't recall that he favored sending the freed slaves anywhere, but I could simply be not remembering. Sending them back to their native Africa was an idea that was going around. In fact, Liberia was founded as a freed slave colony in the early nineteenth century and many freed slaves did move there by choice.

Right on the first part; the war was fought to prevent the Confederate states establishing a new nation, not to end slavery.
Wrong on your second point, however. Lincoln hated slavery and intended to fight to end it from his very first forays into politics in the 1830's. He did not end slavery just to spite the south.
And as far as the Emancipation Proclamation goes, it only effected the states that were at war with the Union. 5 slave states (Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, and the newly formed West Virginia) remained loyal to the North and continued to hold slaves. Lincoln did this for two reasons: he needed to keep those five states from seceding, and his Proclamation was not a law; it fell under his power as commander in chief as a military strategy against an enemy in a time of war. Just a little trivia.

This is no roll back of any protection you think you may have had. Google facebook and others have been selling your information for many years and Obama did not change that. Obama's rules still allowed Google to sell your browsing history and other info. Google is a big Democrat donor and Obama was trying to give them an unfair monopoly. Nearly all of you seem to love chrome so much! You have ALWAYS had your "privacy invaded" by Google and apparently no one minded.
All Trump has done is stop playing favorites and allow others to do what Facebook, Google, etc. are already doing to you.

Dance? C'mon, man! Name another era that's more about dance than Disco! The Bee Gees, ABBA, and Lipps Inc. will be more than glad to help you rail that bag of China White you just bought in the men's room! Maybe you're into rap. I can't understand why in hell you would be but where do you think it came from? Curtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, and The Sugar Hill Gang evolved their styles from 70's R&B and Funk.
I'm not saying 70's music is all I listen to, but regardless what your favorite genre is today it all comes from the pioneers of 70's music. Solid. Gold. Decade.

@silvermyth While you're partly correct about picking music I beg to differ about your gold statement. Obviously there is no era where every song from every artist in every genre is gold, particular if you don't like that type of music, but if we go genre by genre I submit that the 70's were pretty much solid gold throughout.
If you're into bubble gum pop, we had The Osmonds, Donna Summer, Elton John; if you're into R&B we had James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder. Into rock? How about Aerosmith, Bob Seger, AC/DC, Kiss, Queen, Lynnyrd Skynnyrd, and the all-mighty Led Zeppelin. Maybe you prefer to bang your head? Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and of course Quiet Riot baby! Maybe your neck's a little red. Kenny Rogers, Waylon Jennings, and Asleep at the Wheel have something for you.
