I worked in food and bev for a long time. You should tip 20% for great service, 15% for good service, and less only if the server was very inattentive. If you feel that your country has a better system, so be it. However, if you come to the states and don't tip because you think it is silly or what have you, then please realize you are affecting someone's paycheck and ability to provide for themselves. Servers do not receive their hourly paychecks as the majority goes to taxes and they have to tip out other staff members (bartenders, busboys, etc.) a percentage of whatever you order. Therefore, if you don't tip, the server just paid to wait on you. So just do the right thing and tip appropriately or do not eat in a restaurant. Also, servers do not want to wait on teenagers because the majority of them don't tip/ don't tip well. That is just the fact of the matter. Parents should teach their kids that kind of thing but most dont think about it. Sorry for long comment. Have a great week
