This effect is called efflorescence. From the root "flos", which literally means "flower". So yes, they are quite literally "ice blossoms".

There are 2 types and several sizes of infinity. So does the kid mean a countable infinity or an uncountable infinity? If he means an uncountable infinity, then which cardinality (aleph number) is he talking about?
