sadly not an option on a withering Australian night, when even the road is melting, and the beads of sweat covering your back are deeper and saltier than most oceans...
when the only thing that stops you from drowning in your own warm, putrid, perspiration is the scarce whisperings of a breeze trailing through the open window...
when you can barely sleep because of the oven-like heat pervading every orifice of your body, and the foreboding, screaming buzz of mosquitos outside the wire screen on your window...
when the only thing worse than the heat in the room is the looming threat of blood-sucking winged devils attacking any and all of your exposed skin with the kiss of death...
so yes, we do need screens
and no, we can't just close the window
