"Huh.. Kids eat free today... *looks at me* Tonight, you are 10."
"Wait, what? I don't even..."
"You don't look 14, so just say you aren't"
"...Okay..."

AS A YOUNG BLACK GIRL,
I can confirm that what I see just about everyday is young black kids about my age (14) doing things that they shouldn't be doing, singing/'rapping' things hey shouldn't be, and throwing up gang signs. Whether it's for fun or not, they don't know that flashing those signs could in fact get you shot.
The generation before ours? The young black children then knew what they wanted to be in life. Sure there were the ones who fell behind, but they were outnumbered by the good ones. Rap was rap back then without it being about sex, money, drugs. It was actually about LIFE.
Yes, you're right about them being different individuals in their own right, but they follow each other and chase each other's dreams which 9/10 is to be a rapper.
Now, maybe it's just Chicago, but that's what I witness on a day to day basis.

I would like to be this kind of teacher.
I kinda sorta have one like this.
My HR teacher. She got us addicted to mints during testing...
She got our class and the other teachers addicted.
Our teachers are like our drug dealers now.
I just realized how bad that sounds omg.
