Sure they have it better than the other 99% of people in the world, but does that mean that their problems are worth nothing? The reason some people make a big deal out the whole ''oscars'' situation, is not because it really is the biggest issue Black Americans face today, but because it is representative of a pattern of behavior that is common in the American media. Sure you also have the BET awards and the NAACP awards when it comes to black moviestars, but what about other bussinesses across the board? Black newsanchors, journalists, politicians, are still not as common as they ought to be. And representation IS important after all. Time after time studies show that if minorities are not properly represented in the media it affects the self-esteem and self-image of people within this minority. This has even proven to be the case with very small children. Can you really dismiss the whole ''OscarsSoWhite'' hashtag as void when it is all clearly part of a bigger problem?
