Its part of a stigma back in the 50s or there abouts when advertising was booming. Adverts promoted baby powder milk being better then breast milk and paid doctors to promote this idea as well. So basically any women and some men from that era are basically passing this knowledge on to their children and we all know that family/friend advice is better then a doctors advice nowadays. Also I mean that anybody that could afford baby powder milk are usually passing this knowledge on.

Yes the idea work because that meant the soldiers would fight harder if they see their lover hurt. This is an emotional strategy to try to win.

That was for most the troops in greek and roman times. The heads of military encourage the soldiers to love one another in the troops.that one of the reasons why Spartans fought well beside their fellow soldiers. And the usa has adopted this strategy as well, not loving your fellow soldiers but having a family. Before ww1 this strategy was put in place because who wants to go to war and not have a reasonable cause to go.
