German soldiers were not forced into the Wehrmacht under threat of death for themselves or their families. Stop spreading this bullshit. They had military conscription like the entire world around them (with consequences if you refused, like every other country).
Many Germans who were not die-hard Nazis volunteered because they believed in their role in leading the world, or because they felt that Germany got a bad deal out of WW1 . Most of those non-Germans fighting for the Germans during WW2 were aligned with the Reich out of politics and opposition to their own regional enemies. Yes. Anschluss happened, yes, Austrians joined the Wehrmacht. Many believed in Hitler's views... he was Austrian after all. Of course, when it came to the atrocities, they were human beings and many within the Wehrmacht opposed the extermination of religious and ethnic minorities. That's why those who carried out the extermination of Jews belonged to the SS - something the Wehrmacht opposed.
