That's great. It's hard at first and seems like slow going, but it gets unbelievably better. Even now, no matter what happened in the past, you aren't f*cking up anything new.

I lived in Memphis for about 15 years. The kid knew what he was getting to. Just about all the schools have metal detectors, not to prevent school shootings (outside ones), but because of gang violence. The kid would have been better off kicking a crocodile. I'm 6' and about 280; Memphis teenage girls scare me :)

Absolutely. A sick little child wanting attention. "Look what I did! I'm special!" What a f*cking waste of skin.

For some reason, when I get to "Look," I am about half a click from snapping like a twig in a hurricane. If I bypass "Look" and go to "Look Motherf**ker," it's already too late.

I'd recommend against watching it. We know from the reports what happened. It's natural to be drawn to gather as much information as possible when a horrific act occurs. I see it as seeking understanding as well as a natural curiosity with anything that is far outside normal human experience. However, seeing footage of extreme real-life violence has the potential to cause the viewer to experience negative mental health symptoms including anxiety, depressed mood, and disturbing intrusive memories. Aside from personal consequences, there is also the idea according the victims and their families a measure of dignity and respect. I know that I would not want strangers to watch the slaughter of my children. In my opinion there is so much distressing stuff we already have to deal with involuntarily; we owe to ourselves to avoid adding to load when we can.

I often make people say things they don't even want to think about and relive the worst things that have ever happened to them. I frequently cause pain and weeping. I don't feel fulfilled until I never see them again.

Please consider submitting feedback about the excessive ads 16 comments

An alternative (that wouldn't work unless a lot of people follow through), might be to contact advertisers and inform them that the way FS implements the ads gives a negative perception of their brand. The new owner won't care until it causes a loss of revenue.

I actually think it's a bit more simple than that. We tend to find what we are looking for, i. e., confirmatory bias. I agree with your take on depressive realism. When you think of Beck's cognitive triad (depressed people think "I suck, the world sucks, and the future is hopless" ), those who are depressed notice "bad" things more because they are looking for them. They also attribute greater potential negative consequences to the bad thing. I happen to disagree with the depressive realism theory. I spend a good bit of time helping people shift from judging thoughts and perceptions as true or false to helpful or unhelpful. If it is a helpful belief/perception (can one take action to bring one's self closer to the life desired?) then take action and move forward, if not, detach from it. I personally think most of us (me included) spend too much time getting pulled along by our thoughts instead of taking steps, however small, to bring us closer to the person we want to be.

Psychopath vs sociopath 6 comments
metaanalysis · 5 years ago
Sociopathy isn't actually a recognized mental health term. Psychopathy is a feature potentially, but not always, present in antisocial personality disorder. People with psychopathy or antisocial PD are not always violent.
