And even then, if you don't like it, put it down and make sure to remind people that it isn't a productive relationship. Some people like reading it anyway....

Alright ^^ Like I said, I haven't read it, but even still, I kind of think that people are entitled to read and write whatever they like. I get turned on reading about a lot worse stuff, and I'm not entirely sure why people protest it, since it seems that that is freedom of speech. No one is forcing anyone to read the book. I just think it should be made clear (in cases of actual horrible relationships in fiction, especially if the book centers around them) that there is content like that in the book (I'm pretty sure you can tell from reading the plot summary so, not a problem). *shrug* Let people read what they want, imo. So long as they don't do anything wrong to real people, I don't see the problem.

I haven't read the book, but just seeing the movie commercial ( and the movie may be different) but that is not BDSM, that's abuse. The girl is clearly terrified, and true BDSM is always safe and consensual, even if the fetishes are things like rape, bondage, ect. I'm part of a BDSM community. Contracts are not meant to be used, there is always a safe word so that if someone ever feels uncomfortable or wants to stop (for real) they can. You are never supposed to feel pressured or truly unsafe.

Okay, here's how I see it: IF he wants partial custody of the child, then he should start paying child support NOW. However, that bitch should be in jail, unless he still doesn't want to press charges. Bonus however, he definitely was a rape victim. The legal age to consent is what it is to prevent things like this, when kids don't know what's going on or are to uncertain/awkward/scared to say no. Under some circumstances, he might not say he was a victim, but since you don't know what happened, (IMO) you can't really say that he's not.

I think he meant womEn because there are other womEn who get the same treatment as this womAn. Either that or it was a mistake, either way, really now.

I don't support that kind of relationship in real life, but the fact is, I love the Joker and if he were real, I'd crap my pants. Books are books, and you can definitely enjoy them because the characters /aren't real/. I understand why people don't like it, it definitely doesn't promote a healthy relationship in any sense of the word, but even then, it's one of those "not all women" things. *shrug*

So maybe you should? I mean, it's not great, but it's pretty understandable that they would rather do something to help themselves, and most of them are probably too young or uneducated to really do any good even raising awareness in places in the middle east. Most of them have never been there, or even understand most of the culture there, let alone have the ability to tell what women there feel like they want to change. They have a personal connection to things like this, and they know from experience what they would like to change about it.

It's not calling men privileged, it was saying that the woman who wrote a journal entry on how women should feel lucky that they get cat called at was lucky for not ever having to be afraid.

And I get the point that people should be careful, no one is arguing against that, but the point is, this is against victim blaming. You should never say that someone was asking for it. What they were wearing shouldn't be taken into consideration, because the fact is, most rapists don't actually notice. They don't go for the flashy topless protesters who are going to be noticed, they go for that teenage girl wearing a batman t-shirt and jeans, because her eyes are down and she's alone. Because they can get away with it.

Be 18, staying for the weekend at Girlfriend's.
See a spider, it's crawling towards me.. now what?
"*GIRLFRIEND*"
Five seconds later, both standing on a chair screaming and crying as a spider crawls across the floor.

I've posted about this before, and it's not really a secret, but for a long while, my grandfather was sexually abusing me. Even someone saying "thanks" to me makes me shiver, because that's what he'd say. I know that's not their fault, and that is a perfectly innocent word, and I'm strong, so I deal with it. But cat calls are not innocent, they might make some people feel good, but (and maybe this is just my own distrust of men, which definitely is something I'm working at) it doesn't seem to me that that's the intention. Cat calling is to get attention, not to make the woman feel good. I really have never thought of cat calls as any sort of intentional, pure-hearted compliment, and that's where the problem lies...

Or it could actually be too painful... There are legitimate reasons to not be friends with your ex. It can actually be hard for them. But I agree with something I think you were trying to get at there, the friendship is definitely more than a dead dog.

If you talk to me at any time and there's nothing to really talk about I get real personal. Like, man, I've known you for two hours and you know me better than my own mother.

I don't pretend to know everything, but the point I'm making is that telling people that others have it worse solves nothing and just makes people feel that they don't matter. If you would like to raise awareness, don't do it by saying others don't matter. Do it by raising awareness, and support everyone who has a problem. I know that things are bad there, but this kind of comment doesn't help anyone.

You might be able to look into where the closest ward is, if you contact them I'm sure they'd be willing to set up a meeting to tell you more. There are a lot of great principles in their religion. A lot of their practices and teachings are really just about being the best you can be.

Harry Potter is a story about friendship and the power of love. Just because it gets old doesn't mean it doesn't still apply. People still read the Odyssey.

Just because people have it harder somewhere else doesn't mean this isn't a legitimate concern. We wouldn't ignore children who are being neglected just because children in other places are being abused.

If you go to a church nearby you can probably get one! You can also buy them online and in certain book stores. Living in Utah, and not even a Mormon myself, I have four copies.

And I've seen girls go nuts over a guy who has tons of make-up on his face, but then, I was in theater for a long time. I've also seen guys who go nuts over girls who wear none, or hardly any.

I agree with mostly the third point. It's also good to point out, though, that not all guys are just dressing for girls any more than girls are just dressing for guys. They want to feel good about themselves, and they want other guys to think they're cool.
Guy's metabolism varies and it's important to remember that the stick-thin guys aren't thought of as attractive either. I'm not super hot or anything, but a guy who does the same things I do would fit the body image even less. Remember that guys suffer from eating disorders too.
Lastly, let me tell you a story: I'm nineteen years old in a week. I have a job as a hostess at a quality restaurant. I have a girlfriend, and I've had guys ask me out several times. I wore make-up once, to a family event, and that was extreme goth make-up to freak my family out (it was almost halloween). No one has ever suggested that I start wearing make-up except my own mother.... I don't even use blush, or cover up, or mascara. Nothing. *shrugs*
