When someone dies, and no one is there to mourn them, the mourning is then placed upon a random person- this is why you sometimes randomly feel sad.

Plus the writers originally wanted to make Hans and Anna the heroes and in love and Elsa the villain but when they heard "Let it go" they decided it was an empowerment song and switched Hans to the villain. That's why we see such a radical change in character.
