A car like this 6 comments

I don't know anyone who owns a car (Dutch, everyone cycles), but that does look like the house of someone I know. It made me a bit sick in my mouth.

You've got a point. As a Frenchman, I have the unfair advantage that every English word of three syllables or more is actually of Latin origin. I am glad that a few American citizens went through the trouble of looking up a few words in the dictionary recently. Every bit of education helps.

"all over the place". But I'm cheating, I'm French, and French is Latin, and I took Latin in high school, so it's as obvious to me as 1+1. English is probably tougher for English speakers than it is for native 'frenchers'. Is that English word three syllables or more? Then it's french.

But there are tens of thousands of Christian denominations. So each 'religion' is split into denominations. That's a lot of disagreements, new ones every day. On the other hand, all sciences are merging into one. Religion is divisive, knowledge is cohesive.

Girls on okcupid think that only 1 out of 6 guys is above-average looking. Which is far from what the meaning of "average" should be. Still they date us. So maybe they really don't care.

I'm a mathematician. I can speak all day about adjoint functors in closed monoidal categories, but don't ask me to add numbers in my head. The only naturals that I ever use are 0, 1 and 2. That's sufficient to deal with any countable infinity.

Aww. I would ask you to teach them to use a keyboard, but that may be more of an extrovert job.

I'm sorry my PhD in physics is not real enough for you and does not contribute to anything. After all, I'm only studying what reality is made of, and I share that knowledge publicly to whomever cares to listen or read. Oh, and I program computer games to pass the time, so that other human being can have fun. If only I had been an extrovert, all that work would have meant something!

I didn't even know they weren't supposed to. It's little things like that that make me happy to live in Europe.

Because during that time, that money is in a bank making interest for someone else. In France, you pay what you owe, your don't pay in advance and get refunds, so the interests are yours.

From the age of 12, I've been reading while walking (always a paperback in the pocket). I'm glad that peripheral vision is sensitive to motion.

The more you know, the less you relate to others. You still care, there's just nobody to share it with.
