It is sad that a lot of people don't get this when discussing important topics 4 comments

It generalizes to everything. Also, personal experience, feelings or revelations are terrible evidence. Acceptable evidence must be independently verifyable.

Yeah, that's changing, though. In astrophysics at least. Clarity, precision and honesty trump tradition and humility.

It did. Even Jared thought so and was quite upset about the final cut. He shot enough material to make a full movie, but they kept like two crappy minutes from it.

I remember my French teacher in high school saying in front of the whole class I reminded her of Buster Keaton because I was never smiling. Great, one more year of being bullied, thanks, I really needed that. That's when I started practicing in front of the mirror (making sure my fake smile was symmetrical took weeks) and pretending. Twenty five years later I'm still faking.

Usually not. It sometimes happens when there's copyright issues, but then it says "This video is unavailable in your region". Here it's unavailable period. Does it still work for you?

Yeah. Texturing isn't what transformed a cube into a multi-layered tower with arches and a roof.

General knowledge. I'm a physicist, we use Greek words and letters all the time for everything.

Mirrors aren't made of glass. The glass is here merely to protect the layer of metal, which is reflective, while still being transparent. The green on the back is also a protective layer. Metals are reflective because their electrons are free to move (electrical conductors), so when light (an electro-magnetic phenomenon) hits them, electrons follow the electric field from the light. But an accelerating electron emits light, so it reemits exactly what it receives, cancelling all electromagnetic field inside the metal. Light cannot propagate inside metals. What the electron re-emits forms the reflection. Now, about color. Non-metals don't have free electrons so they dont re-emit from their surface. Instead, light penetrates the material, bounces inside for a while, some of it is absorbed and dissipated as heat, but some randomly exits again at a different nearby location. The color is whatever comes out again after this process of "sub-surface scattering". Metals don't have a color.

I use the ISO format whenever I'm free to pick one. Apparently that's also how dates work in Hungary. yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss.ssssss . It goes from long to short, and alphabetical order coincides with chronological order.

As a computer scientist, this doesn't surprise me. The algorithm is called "space colonization", spreading from trunk/branches (road tracks) towards a surrounding resource like light (or trees). Same problem, same solution.

Clinique and Estee Lauder are actually the same products with different names and brand image. Literally. That way with only one R&D lab they can cover two markets. Rich people buy EL, less rich people buy C.

It's obviously Jesus. Every face on anything is Jesus', it's a well known fact backed up by much burnt toasts and water damage evidence.
