The old screw in light bulb fixtures and bulbs in the NYC subway were custom made for them and the bulbs screwed in in the opposite direction as regular bulbs to prevent theft.

Nice but not true. Look it up on snopes (can't post urls in comments): 'soldier carrying donkey' is from the Algerian war in 1958 and the donkey was too weak to walk and was being rescued.
