I think it also depends on how you advertise yourself or what you specialise in, my uncle is a welder and makes very fancy gates and things. Because he's well known for this he gets a lot of business. Yes he has been welding for years and I'm sure he started off with boxes but he made his skill into something more rewarding later on.
