then i’m maybe more… well-rounded? than most. because that wouldn’t be a problem for me. nor would it be for the people in my social group… it’s just a strange concept that someone could have in their retinue of people they know from polite acquaintances to close friends and family not a SINGLE person of the opposite gender. like, it would almost seem you would have to purposefully cultivate that kind of environment, which is a little concerning for the person who has done so… like what have you been through that would make you want to take steps to AVOID the opposite gender? or, as bad, is there some narrow worldview that you so pathologically adhere to that you surrounded yourself in totality with like-minded people that can echo your thoughts? or maybe i’m reading too much into this.

i agree with this but how in the world could someone just… not know anyone of the opposite gender? at least not enough to ask a pretty simple question in person?

i’m going to explain this to my kids, and encourage them to follow their dreams and seek the education necessary to those goals but to understand that college isn’t the requirement they make you feel it is when you’re in school

i read the article and the situation was a mess and the guy was so absurd it’s even funnier;
he basically earned the AUS equivalent for a dishonorable discharge years ago and lost his cat. the shelter had it, but had a one-day-hold policy wherein they were required to wait a day before returning it. the guy had like 10 hours left and decided to fucking storm the place and threaten a 23yo worker with what she discribed as “a gun you’d see on a swat team”, tying her up and bringing his kitty home. like, dude…. fucking chill. you’ll get it back tomorrow.

british canadian, maybe. the québécois are bitter, confident, tough, and will outfight, fuck, or drink anyone who says otherwise. we have greats in our ranks like Leo Major, the one-eyed french canadian who liberated a dutch town from the nazis all alone in WW2. it ain’t the “oh sorry” type of crowd, more than “excusez-moi” escelating to “Fuck you” types.
and we have a disdain for the french that i’m sure anyone can understand lol

A character that needs to put down other characters is not a strong character, it’s a bully. in efforts towards inclusivity, make sure the demographic you are trying to represent is not solely defined by their demographic, or else all you’re doing is making an insulting and obvious grab. and let your heroes have their flaws and be held accountable for their actions, like anyone else. let them struggle, let them grow, let them improve with effort.
the world needs more Ellen Ripleys, Fa Mulan’s (1999), and Sarah Connors. not more Rey Palpatines/Skywalkers/who-fucking-cares.

worst part is disney could have done a lot better; they have some real winners and a track record of staying largely out of production decisions. but they choose trending directors savvy with popular hot button topics, experience optional, and fill their roster with characters that pander to marketable demographics.
no none of these things alone is particularly bad; inexperienced directors can absolutely make great movies, current events and popular politics can still make for good subject matter, and representation is important in deciding on the cast of characters.
that said, don’t pander in an insulting obvious way, actually be capable of writing a fucking story, and if you’re going to continue a saga make sure that you don’t trample on the efforts of your predecessors to try and make it new and refreshing. We don’t need our old heroes broken down or for the lore to be ignored, we need the story to continue.
