my dad was born on Friday the Thirteenth and flaunted his apparent immunity to these rituals. about the only thing that he considered to be bad luck was if he’d put his tools away that he wasn’t using before finishing a job, because right then something would break and he’d have to extend his time for the repair. he was a field service engineer, and traveled between the US, Europe, and Asia for work, and sometimes this meant extending his trip for weeks or a month.

i mean… to pull from personal experience, fire departments in my area were accused of this issue. which looks bad, until you realize that the only people applying were latino or white, and i’m gonna guess that that’s largely the issue with the NHL. and the NBA drafts based on the quality of player, less than representation, and if the statistical majority of quality players are black, then can you blame them?

because of costly car troubles, I had to cancel A hotel stay for my upcoming anniversary, which really bummed out my wife. But then my parents surprised me with a free night at the hotel we were gonna be staying at, and I still haven’t told my wife and I’m planning on dropping the ball on her in the last minute. Also, I took my anniversary off, but I haven’t said anything to that effect either, because I wanna hit her with a double whammy. It’s gonna be awesome!

fact checked this and yes, in some cases they did dump the scalding hot water out of the barrel to make tea.

to be honest, I kinda get where she’s coming from; she wanted him to retire and he wanted to retire so he could spend more time with his family, because he’s on the road pretty much all the time, and because they wanted him to actually be able to enjoy his later years instead of being racked with long-term injuries from the sport, only to have him reverse his decision not long after he announced his retirement. If I were her, I’d be pretty pissed too.

(cont.) was so heartbreaking. i’m in a better place now, and moving up, and i sympathize with those who still have to make that sacrifice. so is there a kernel of truth to this? probably, but the article used it as a justification for shitty practices that allow for food deserts and prevailing hunger, and to that i say There Is No Justification For Making Kids Go Hungry If There Are Some Means To Feed Them.
and yes, i am using biased and specific examples to demonstrate my point, but i think it stands to reason that they are examples we all can agree on.
