How to raise a happy child 13 comments

I'm sorry that I didn't clarify my definition of discipline. ..my parents never hit and never used physical means of punishmemt. They encouraged and rewarded positive behavior, but if I misbehaved, I was put in "time out" as a child; or as a teen, grounded or my phone was taken away. My parents used effective but appropriate measures to insure that I behaved. My parents focused on fostering a strong relationship with me as well. Unlike most people my age, I have a strong and positive relationship with them. That to me seems like a good balance of disciplinary action and building relationships.

Guest has a point. Children need to be disciplined, and acting as their friend isn't discipline. A parent needs to foster good relationships with the child, but also needs to discipline.

I don't see which point they are trying to make/what their goal is in creating this video. BEFORE YOU DOWNVOTE ME READ THe WHOLE THING. I don't understand. Are they saying that it is more accepted that black children are abused? People will help a white child but won't help a black child? I don't see their point or what they were trying to prove. Can someone explain?

I don't think it's sexist, more simply stereotypical, but typically not in an offensive way.

If I'm correct, I think Native Americans did not believe in "owning" things, esp. land.

Mgoviea, you have a good point as well. Parents have the largest impact on their children, and ultimately decide what is ok/not ok in their family. Schools and politicians should not raise the children, but they HAVE to care, and must provide a moral compass because they spend so much time with the kids. Schools are an important factor of making children good citizens.
EDIT: Abstaining vs. Not Abstaining is not a factor in whether or not u are a good citizen. (Before anyone interprets my comment that way)
