I have had math awards given to me my entire life, with 99% in my past 3 math classes in high school on top of that. Yet still, I process 9 + 7 as 10 + 6, or something like 17 + 8 as 20 + 5. It's most definitely not a trick that I need, it's just how my brain computes things. (Also, I don't even have ADHD that I know of, I just relate to this post)
