Not necessarily, I feel that people are more eager to make things into memes than in the past. So there is a greater quantity of memes, but few posses the staying power of older memes. Notable examples of long lasting modern memes include Drake, Harambe and sans. So whilst the majority of memes have a short life cycle, it is mostly due to these memes being of a lower qaulity.
