The fat suit was intentionally garish and unsightly. A non-ripped Chris Hemsworth would still be above average attractiveness, as he's a Hollywood actor with a symmetrical face and strong features. Furthermore, I didn't like the handling of his character at all throughout the movie. This was a possibility to develop him emotionally, and build on how he deals with the trauma of loss. Instead, they almost exclusively used him for obesity/depression jokes. It doesn't have to be "people are offended that his character is a caricature of overweightness and how men are ridiculed for showing emotion", its just bad from a storytelling standpoint as well.
