I thought Florida was the penis of America. Which would make sense since you'd have to be a dick to make it illegal to feed the homeless.

Yes, that's true. It does clog the ER. I've seen many people go thru the ER that did not need to be seen there. It also costs a lot more for an ER visit then a simple clinic visit with a doctor. But I wasn't advising people to go to the ER for non emergent reasons, just providing information for the uninsured who need immediate care, but worry about the incurred cost.
Most larger cities have free clinics. While you may wait a long time before you're seen, many can also give out free antibiotics and other non controlled medications.
Even regular doctors offices have uninsured discounts and will also set you up on payment plans, and will not make you pay for the visit up front.
No, healthcare in the USA is not free, but it is quite far from the situation the post portrays it as.

Killing A Lion Is The Most Cowardly Thing You Can Do 28 comments

I hadn't, I was giving my opinion to the questions and opinions that were given after, so I wasn't really responding directly to bamboo gamer. Obviously I should have first. I'm glad that particular reserve does that, as I have a friend who's parents went on an African hunting trip where the animals bodies were not used for anything other then a rug, a mounted head, and taking the horns of animals they shot. My point was that there is a difference in hunting and being responsible, and just killing to kill. I would actually doubt that South Africans would consider that kind of waste at all compatible with their hunting culture.

I don't have a problem with hunting, but i do have a problem with killing something just to kill it. It's what you do with the dead animal afterwards that makes the difference. Is the meat and pelt going to be used? Or do you just want to say you killed a big animal, and then leave it to rot?
While over population/wasting disease of animals can lead to a lot of problems, and can actually lead to under population of other animals and unbalance an areas ecology, I've never heard of lions being over populated. Or of Americans using a lion as anything other then a trophy. I can understand if they were letting people pay a ton to shoot an older lion, and then used its body to feed other carnivorous animals, especially if it helped keep the areas wildlife balanced.

No ER will ever turn anyone away for being unable to pay. If they do, they're breaking federal law and can be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars. If you are uninsured and need to be seen, do not let cost keep you from seeking treatment. When someone goes through the the ER uninsured, most hospitals have an uninsured discount and also have you fill out forms for grants for the uninsured, and for state programs. If you're still worried, after you're seen, ask for a CARDON representative or a financial counselor.

No, they don't have to supplement a breastfeed child's diet. Children don't start eating regular food until after 6months or so. And even then, they still need breast milk or formula because beginner foods, and the amount a child is able to consume vs breast milk, does not contain enough nutrients, calories or fats.
People who eat an omnivore diet do not need a supplement for missing nutrients or vitamins. Unless they decide to limit themselves substantially in the variety of foods they eat, no one should really ever need a vitamin pill. But to those who choose or have to or have specific medical problems, vitamins are important to health.

Animals do produce them. The problem with breast milk from a strict vegan mother is that it doesn't contain enough fat or DHA. Now, that doesn't mean that the mother would have to change her diet. But she would need to supplement her child's diet to get that fat and DHA. Children are not born with the coating that protects nerve cells (the myelin sheith). They develop it by consuming the right type of fats. This one reason why children who are malnourished have developmental problems, and can actually lead to permanent mental retardation.

I've always been a U fan, and that's where I went to college, and loved it. But I grew up in utah county all my life. Plus, Bronco is my neighbor.
I think I'm one of the few who are glad about the end to the holy war. Besides all the Aggies.

What??? I thought you were from Utah county? The girl in the white shirt is a BYU player. (I'm a Utah fan myself, but also like BYU.)
Anyway, I think miss red shirt was dropped from her team. But only after the match, when the video went viral. A lot of her teammates were disciplined as well for playing dirty. Although the refs did nothing to stop it during the game.

I almost wish that was the reason. But no, her mother was just a complete idiot, and wouldn't listen to reason. She liked how it sounded. And couldn't understand why her daughter hated being plagued with all the comments and weird looks when she told people her name.

I have to admit, I'm very pro normal children's names. I have a very very very common first name, and it never bothered me. Plus, I've known far to many adults with unique names that either changed them when they turned 18, or always go by a nickname because they hate their given name.
I had a housemate in college who's name was Konnichiwa. She went by Ann for the most part.

Good for you. You can thank your health for 2 things. One, a genetically good immune system. Two, the fact that you're surounded by a public who has been vaccinated, and therefore viral pathogens are not running around rampant and cannot spread. Vaccinations, and those who have gotten them, are why you still have almost no chance of getting measels or mumps. The problem starts when more and more people rely on others vaccinating. This is why after years of almost no cases of polio, there has been a huge resurgence in this paralytic and devastating virus.

Most vaccines currently in use use dead viruses. It's very common for children to still have a reaction after a vaccine, as the body recognizes the pathogen and reacts to it. But most of the time it will be very mild. The few who do have a bigger reaction are genetically predisposed for a greater reaction to vaccines. They have an immune system that may overreact. But unless a doctor advises against it, you should vaccinate.

The worst thing about the cases in the link, isn't even just that the children died, but they died excruciatingly. Hunger and dehydration are horribly physically painful for infants and toddlers. I'd bet that children who survive such malnourishment also have severe emotional damage.
